His father, Karsten Johansson, is a Danish-born architect, and her paternal grandfather, Ejner Johansson, screenwriter and director (Scarlett Johansson holding citizenship Denmark). Her mother, Melanie Sloan, a producer, comes from the Ashkenazi Jewish family from the Bronx. Johansson's parents met in Denmark, where his mother lived with Johansson's maternal grandmother, Dorothy, a former bookkeeper and teacher.



Johansson has an older sister, Vanessa, who is also an actress; a brother older, Adrian; a twin brother, Hunter, also an actor, and half-brother, Christian, from the re- marriage of his father.
