Muhammad Mursi, President of Egypt

Muhammad Mursi was sworn in as President of Egypt in the field Tahrir Square, Cairo, Egypt, Saturday (30/6). Mursi was elected as the first Egyptian President from civil. In taking his oath, Mursi praised Muslims and Christians can come together and packed the historic place.

Tahrir Square is one of the historic moment for the people of Egypt Hosni Mubarak toppled from the presidency last year. In his speech before the Constitutional Court, he swore to uphold the constitution.

"I will keep the interests of the people and protect the independence and security of the nation," he said as quoted by Al Jazeera on Saturday (30/6).

President of the Muslim Brotherhood party's promise to end torture and discrimination. Not only that, Mursi also promised to free the captured soldiers of civilians since the revolution. More than 12 thousand people have been tried by a military court since last February 2011.
